Premium Urban Sanctuary

We are delighted to have completed the design of Wellington College Independent School Jakarta, a pioneering primary school located in Simatupang, South Jakarta. Situated within a fully air-conditioned tower above offices and a premium retail mall, the school represents an innovative response to the challenge facing global mega-cities – how to create exceptional educational environments when large suburban plots are no longer available near wealthier residential districts.

A Contextualised Classic

Our team collaborated closely with Wellington College over six months, working together on Brand Experience Strategy, Interior Design, Internal Landscape Play, and FF&E to create this wonderfully unique internal “campus in the air”. The design process followed our “brand experience” approach, developing a strategy that ensures the school remains relevant to its target audience whilst achieving clear differentiation from competitors. This methodology enabled us to create a powerful new expression of Wellington’s character and values, contextualised to the Indonesian premium market and culture through carefully considered forms, materials, nature, furniture, and environmental design.

Relevant through difference

The result is a genuine “urban oasis” – deliberately different from any other school in Jakarta. The calmness of the natural spaces created within the building provides a serene environment that is both convenient and accessible for families. This approach addresses the practical challenges of urban school design while creating an atmosphere that supports children’s well-being and sense of belonging.

Supportive and beautiful

Our specialist team designed the internal experience in accordance with best practices for spaces that support both mental and physical well-being. Classrooms are light and airy, with access to indoor garden spaces and large-scale play areas featuring collaborative, open-ended resources. Shared spaces for the whole school community to gather sit alongside specialist rooms for music, dance, and sports.
